Police reported that on January 14, when a speeding woman struck another vehicle, killing its methamphetamine-impaired driver, she was charged with driving under the influence. There were apparently little amounts of alcohol and cocaine in the woman’s system.
In connection with the deadly collision in January, Summer Butler, 37, was recently detained and is accused of DUI resulting in death, careless driving, and possession of a controlled narcotic, according to KTLA. A North Las Vegas Police Department affidavit states that around 11.55 p.m. on that day, Butler was driving east on East Cheyenne Avenue past Civic Center Drive while another car was travelling west. In front of Butler, the other car executed a U-turn, resulting in a collision. Butler is accused of crashing while moving at 73 mph with a.102 blood alcohol content.
According to the Clark County coroner’s office, the deceased driver, 54-year-old Ishaman Edwards, passed away at the hospital from blunt force injuries. When the accident happened, police reported that Edwards was going 70 mph. The affidavit states that the brakes weren’t deployed until just before the collision.
According to a report acquired by KTLA, Butler allegedly had a little baggie with a white substance fall out of the left side of her breast while she was obtaining medical attention. In Butler’s car, police also discovered a revolver and a bottle of vodka that was just halfway empty. After a warrant was issued against her, the woman was detained in June and freed on $15,000 bail on August 29.
When Butler arrived at the hospital, officials had sedated her because of her “erratic” behaviour, which was observed by police officers who rushed to the incident. Weeks after the incident, test findings further proved Butler’s presence of cocaine and marijuana in her blood, the police department said KTLA. Butler is still being held at the Clark County Detention Facility.
