Immediately following its inauguration by District Chairman Kumail Hyder Shah and Mayor of Sukkur Barrister Arsalan Shaikh, a newly constructed bridge in Sukkur collapsed.
An image of Mayor Sukkur crossing the new bridge with a large group of people has gone viral on social media. Mayor Sukkur is the brother of former PPP MNA Nauman Shaikh and the son of former Senator Islamuddin Shaikh.

The District Chairman, Nasir Hussain Shah, the son of an ex-MPA, also attended the inauguration ceremony.
Local leaders, including the mayor and chairman, can be seen crossing the bridge in the viral video before it collapses. Panic sets in as the bridge collapses, exposing the apparent overload and possibly poor material quality.
The bridge was built to give access to the city’s recently introduced ferry boats and jet skis.
Further controversy has developed because some of the people with the mayor and chairman can be seen pleading with the person filming the incident to stop. This has raised concerns about whether there were known safety issues with the bridge prior to its opening.
If inquiries into the cause of the collapse have been made, that fact is still unknown.
