Stanley Wilson Jr., a former NFL player, passed away after falling at a mental health facility.
Early on Wednesday morning, TMZ Sports revealed the story and stated that it occurred earlier this month.
Wilson Jr., the son of former Bengals running back Stanley Wilson Sr., was only 40 years old.
He had been detained by the police since August after being taken into jail in California for vandalism.
But on February 1, he was sent from a county jail to a Los Angeles County hospital after prosecutors decided he wasn’t competent to stand trial.
According to TMZ, no foul play is believed to have occurred, although autopsy results are pending a toxicology report.
From 2005 through 2007, Wilson Jr. participated in three seasons with the Detroit Lions.
He was taken 72nd overall in the third round of the 2005 draught out of Stanford.
His career was cut short by an Achilles tendon injury prior to the 2008 season.
In his brief NFL career, Wilson Jr. played 32 games.
