In an ugly incident that was captured on camera early on Sunday, a University of Kentucky student was jailed for assaulting a Black student worker and continuously called her racial epithets.
According to online booking information, the student, Sophia Rosing, 22, was detained in a college resident hall just before 4 a.m. on suspicion of public intoxication, assault, disorderly conduct, and assault to a police officer. Her bond was set by a court at $10,000.
According to the student who was manning the front desk of the university’s Boyd Hall, Rosing, a Caucasian man, came in while looking quite inebriated.
In a TikTok video, the student worker, Kylah Spring, claimed that when she attempted to check on the woman, she was instead attacked and spat upon with terrible venom.
Rosing repeatedly shouted the n-word while trying to assault and abuse Spring in frightening recordings that were circulated on social media.
“Would you please stop?” One video depicts Spring asking Rosing after she attempted to hit her.
Early this morning, a disturbing incident was captured on video in a residence hall. The video is deeply offensive, and we take it very seriously.

“Nope,” Rosing replied. “You’re a n—-r and you’re a b—h.”
“Oh Jesus lord, I do not get paid enough for this,” Spring calmly replied.
“I got this all on video,” another voice off-camera said.
Rosing lunged at them and kicked Spring when she and another student attempted to get her into a seat. Additional video shows her attempting to push a shopping cart at them after that.
As she was being told to complete her chores, Spring claimed that Rosing repeatedly struck, kicked, and bit her arm.
Do my tasks, “it’s not my fault that you’re Black,” “it’s not my fault that you’re ugly,” and at this point, the girl starts singing the n-word, according to Spring.
Even when Rosing was handcuffed by police when they finally arrived, her racial outburst continued.
Rosing repeated the n-word while the officer arrested her and put her hands behind her back.
In a statement released early on Sunday morning, the University of Kentucky denounced the assault.
“Early this morning, a disturbing incident was captured on video in a residence hall,” the university said. “The video is deeply offensive, and we take it very seriously.”
According to the school, the Office of Student Conduct is looking into the incident right away, and the Student Success teams have been in touch with the victims to offer support.
“The safety and well-being of our students is our top priority, and we will not tolerate behavior that threatens it,” the University of Kentucky said.
Eli Capilouto, the president of UK, also informed the university community that a thorough inquiry will be conducted.
In order to prevent future racial assaults on kids on campus, according to Spring, more must be done.
“The problem here is that this happens way too much on college campuses for things to not be done and we get these emails and everything about how [the university doesn’t] tolerate it, but it’s still happening,” she said. “I feel like at this point, the attention needs to be shifted from the offenders to the offended.”
