Two missing adolescent girls’ bodies who went missing earlier this month have been discovered in a water basin.
A dog walker discovered the bodies of Sitlalli Avelar, 17, and Kamryn Meyers, 15, on Saturday in Mesa, Arizona.
On January 7, they had both disappeared from their city group home.
According to investigators, the dog walker who made the 911 call claimed he had mistaken one body for a mannequin.
The second missing female was discovered dead 10 feet away after dialling 911.
According to investigators, the bodies of both teenagers appear to have been submerged for some time.
Police are currently looking into the girls’ mysterious deaths and have told local media that they are determined to learn what happened to the girls.
Sources tell AZ Family that there may have been foul play.
Det. Richard Encinas of the Mesa Police Department told Fox10, “We take any situation like this extremely seriously.
“What happened? I mean, that’s our number one goal, to figure out what occurred.”
Encinas said detectives have been working “nonstop” on solving the case.
A cause of death has not been determined.
He added: “We don’t wait on a medical examiner’s report to kind of guide us in a direction.
“Our investigators have been going nonstop at this since it happened.”
