A MAN has been accused of raping and killing a young woman after her body was discovered.
On Thursday, police found the death of Lizzy McCann, 26, at a residence in Ashton Under Lyne, Greater Manchester.
Currently, Simon Goold, 51, is accused of murder, rape, and penetration assault.
“I express sympathies to Lizzy’s family on behalf of everyone involved in this inquiry,” said Detective Chief Inspector Liam Boden of the GMP’s Major Incident Team. Officers with specialised training have been sent to communicate with them.
“Extra officers are still stationed in the area for reassurance as we are mindful of the impact the news of Lizzy’s death has had on the neighbourhood over the last 24 hours.
Despite the fact that a suspect has been charged, our investigations are ongoing, so we are still pleading with anyone who may have information that can help us to get in touch with us or Crimestoppers anonymously as soon as possible.
Goold has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court today in Manchester.
According to the police, they received a call on August 25 just before 9.15am reporting a woman’s death in a flat on Manchester Road.
A little while later, a man, 51, showed up at the neighbourhood police station and was detained on suspicion of murder.
According to the police, they are currently not seeking for anyone else in connection with Lizzy’s death.
