A horror rollercoaster accident victim who had permanent face and brain damage was made fun of and labelled “stupid” by an American comedian.
After being hit by the 70 km/h Rebel Coaster at the Royal Melbourne Show last month, 26-year-old Shylah Rodden is still in the hospital and is in a critical condition.
In an interview with NFL Network analyst Gregg Rosenthal for their podcast, The Jeselnik & Rosenthal Vanity Project, American stand-up Anthony Jeselnik, known for his dark humour, called the tale “hilarious.”
“This story is absolutely hilarious to me,” he said during an episode called Your Luck Is Like A Rollercoaster, Baby-Baby.
“I bet no one could believe it. I bet she feels dumb.”
It is believed that Shylah was trying to retrieve her phone at the time of the incident.
She was also involved in a car crash in January 2021 in which her car flipped after colliding with a truck.
She had only recently rediscovered how to walk before the rollercoaster crash as a result.
As his co-host explained this, Jeselnik chuckled. When asked if it was okay to walk onto rollercoaster tracks, he responded, “Can you be pardoned because you haven’t been walking about that much that you don’t really know how to walk?
“It’s bad luck but rollercoasters only go in two directions. It’s hard to get hit by them.
“A car, ok anything could have happened, maybe you’re in the street, maybe the car jumped the curb.
“A rollercoaster? That’s your fault every single time.”
Jeselnik concluded: “I can’t wait for another update when she gets hits by a truck in heaven.
“If she lives, play the lottery immediately because your luck has got to turn around.”
Jeselnik has been contacted for comment.
