Misbah-ul-Haq, a former captain of Pakistan, recently expressed his opinions on Shoaib Malik, a senior all-rounder playing for the Karachi Kings in the eighth season of the Pakistan Premier League (PSL).
Misbah lauded Malik’s steady performance over the previous 18 months in both franchise cricket and Pakistan’s international matches during an interview with a local news program.
“Malik has performed for the last one and a half years, whether it franchise cricket or the final time he played for Pakistan,” added Misbah.
“I find it surprising that he hasn’t capitalized on his form during this PSL season. While he has begun playing contemporary cricket and can accelerate with a 140-150 strike rate, he hasn’t shown much in this edition,” Added he.
“You know, he got off to a good start with two fifties, so I believe he has continued to be unfortunate. Nonetheless, Karachi required runs at a run rate of above 10 anytime he entered the game. I believe that’s why he was constantly under pressure.” explained he.
Despite Malik’s previous success, the 48-year-old said he was surprised by his underwhelming performance in the current PSL season.
The 41-year-old, according to Misbah, has adapted effectively to the contemporary game and can score goals swiftly with a strike rate of 140-150.
But he thinks Malik has been unfortunate this year since he frequently entered the game with his team, Karachi, needing to score many runs quickly, which placed him under pressure.
The right-handed hitter nonetheless managed to score 200 runs in nine games despite these obstacles, including two fifty-run innings.
“One must be one’s own judge. He has the choice of continuing to play or retiring. He appears to be in shape and dedicated to his sport. He is free to play franchise cricket if he feels that way,” He stated.
Misbah believes that Malik has been unfortunate rather than out of form in the PSL season 8 based on his performance.
