After an argument early on Friday, a Florida man fatally shot his girlfriend and three of her family, including a 4-year-old girl, authorities said.
According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, another family member fled to a neighbor’s home after the shooting by Shavell Jordan Jones, 23, and phoned the police.
The bodies of a 49-year-old woman, her two adult daughters (ages 28 and 29), and her 4-year-old granddaughter were discovered by deputies. All had suffered deadly head injuries from gunshots.
Jones shot himself in the head but lived, the Orange County Sheriff John Mina said at a press conference. Jones was in surgery on Friday afternoon.
Two additional little children, according to Mina, were in the house when the shooting started, but they hid under their blankets as soon as they heard the gunfire. Neither person was hurt.
According to Mina, Jones had a love involvement with one of the victims, with whom he had a fight the night before. Jones fled the house only to come back with a gun and start shooting, according to Mina.
The couple had no history of domestic violence, according to the police. He stated that aside from a previous misdemeanour, Jones had no criminal history.
The woman who managed to flee the gunshot should make a full recovery.
