A brave police officer killed by a train while attempting to save a man on the tracks was a father of two children.
Sergeant Graham Saville worked tirelessly last Thursday (August 24) to save a man who had been electrocuted near the Bulpit Lane level crossing in Balderton, near Newark-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire.
The 46-year-old subsequently passed away in hospital.
Colleagues at Nottinghamshire Police are claimed to have had a lot of “respect” for Graham, and the force flew its flag at half-mast in his honor.
At before 7 p.m. on Thursday, cops responded to reports of a man in distress before Graham was hit on the East Coast Mainline.
Another man was brought to the hospital with minor electrical injuries.
Tributes for the dead cop have flooded in, even from high-ranking politicians.
“It is a testament to his bravery that he died in the line of duty and a terrible reminder of the work the police do every day to keep us safe.
“My thoughts are with his family, friends and the whole of Nottinghamshire Police Force.”
A JustGiving page has gained huge momentum in recent days in a bid to support Graham’s family with almost 5,000 people working hard to take it to its target of 100,000.
Text on the post read: “This is an appeal to the community in order to assist the immediate family of the fallen police officer following a terrible ordeal whereby an officer has given his life in the line of duty whilst saving the life of another individual.
“This is the epitome of policing bravery.
“This fund will hopefully assist in many areas of their lives as they now come to terms with the tragic outcome. Hopefully one day in time it may help them move forward and bring them some comfort.

At the time of writing, the number raised sits close to £85,000.
Chief Constable Kate Meynell said: “Today is a day of mourning for the entire police family. Graham was a hugely respected and popular colleague and his death in the line of duty has come as an enormous shock to us all. Our hearts and deepest condolences go out to his family and we will do everything we can to support them through this unimaginably devastating time.
“It is impossible to put into words how devastating this news is for everyone who loved and respected Graham.”
