During a ceremony held in Islamabad on Thursday to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and the US, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) released a commemorative coin worth 75 rupees.
The event’s Chief Guest was Foreign Secretary Muhammad Syrus Sajjad Qazi, and Guest of Honor Donald Blome represented the United States in Pakistan.
Starting on Friday, August 25, 2023, the coin will be distributed through the SBP Banking Services Corporation exchange counters. The coin has a round shape with serrated edges, measures 30.00 mm in diameter, weighs 13.5 grams, and is made of Cupro-Nickel metal.
SBP Governor Jameel Ahmad thanked the foreign secretary and the US envoy for attending the event in his welcome speech. According to him, the commemorative coin’s release demonstrates the value both nations place on their relationship, and the coin’s design represents how independent nations come together to work for the advancement of their respective peoples.
He praised the strong people-to-people ties between the two countries in many different spheres of life, especially in the area of education, and emphasized the significant economic ties between the two countries, including trade, foreign direct investment, finance, and remittances. He hoped that US fintech companies would investigate and invest in the opportunities offered by these developing companies given the bright future of the fintech sector in Pakistan and SBP’s numerous initiatives to support it.
The high-level bilateral visits between the two countries have aided in further solidifying the two nations’ complex relationship, which he described as spanning trade and investment, defense, counterterrorism, education, energy, and health. The foreign secretary emphasized the significance of the Pakistan-US relationship for Pakistan, the US, and the region, saying that the coin would continue to stand as an enduring reminder of our dedication to this long-standing alliance.
The US envoy stated in his speech that the coin stands for the shared ideals, ties, and values of the two nations as well as their dedication to a better future. He thanked SBP for its thoughtful gift of the commemorative coin and expressed his desire to collaborate closely with the Pakistani government. He was sure that fresh initiatives, like the US-Pakistan Green Alliance, would make it easier for both nations to work together to address their common problems.
