A Thai drug lord who used plastic surgery to disguise himself as a “handsome Korean man” was apprehended by police.
Sarahat Sawangjaeng underwent surgery and changed his name to Jimin Cheong in order to avoid detection after bringing MDMA into Thailand from Europe.
The 25-year-old admitted to purchasing the drugs on the dark web with Bitcoin and then selling them to customers in and around Bangkok, Thailand.
Thaiger claims that Sawangjaeng is one of the “main causes of Bangkok’s MDMA epidemic.”
Authorities apprehended 575 grammes of MDMA and 290 ecstasy pills bound for Thailand in November of last year and led them to the defendant.
He had eluded authorities since an arrest warrant was issued in early December, but was apprehended after an undercover police officer expressed interest in working as a ‘drug mule’ in a luxury apartment in an upmarket part of Bangkok.
When police arrived to arrest Sawangjaeng, he had transformed into a “handsome Korean man,” according to reports.
He was arrested on suspicion of bringing a Category 1 narcotic into Thailand for distribution, endangering national security and public safety.
“This villain is one of the main causes of Bangkok’s MDMA epidemic,” said Major General Thammasutee. We’ve been searching for him for nearly three months. He underwent plastic surgery to disguise himself.
“He is drug lord importing MDMA from Europe at just 25 years old. We believe there are more suspects in foreign countries. We will continue our investigation.”
Police recognised him because he had previously been arrested three times.
