The parents of Sara Inam, who was reportedly murdered by Shahnawaz Amir, the son of renowned journalist Ayaz Amir, have arrived in Pakistan from Canada.
According to police sources, the victim’s father, Engineer Inam-ur-Rehman, travelled to Islamabad with his wife to retrieve their daughter’s body and administer final rites.
After Zuhr on September 28, Sara’s funeral prayers will be offered in Shehzad Town, Islamabad.
Ayaz Amir, a prominent journalist who had been detained a day earlier, and Shahnawaz were both ordered to remain in physical detention earlier today by a local court in the federal capital for an additional one and three days, respectively, in connection with the death of Sara, a Canadian citizen.
Shahnawaz allegedly killed his wife Sara at home after a row over a “family issue” on September 23.
Shahnawaz admitted to the crime and claimed that he “thought” his wife was having an affair with another person when he was detained by the police from a farmhouse in Islamabad’s Chak Shahzad neighbourhood. Only three months of their marriage were spent together.
Amir and Sameena Shah were named as suspects by Sara’s family, and the trial court authorised their arrest warrants on Saturday.
While his ex-wife requested pre-arrest bail, Amir was detained. Later on Sunday, Amir was given a one-day physical remand by police by an Islamabad district and sessions court.
At the request of Sara’s uncles, Colonel (retd) Ikram and Zia-ur-Rahim, who have accused Amir and his ex-wife of being responsible for their niece’s murder, an additional clause of Section 109 (punishment for abetment) of the Pakistan Penal Code was added to the police report that was filed after the murder.
According to the petitioners, Sameena had been residing at the farmhouse where Sara was killed.
The case
On Friday, police filed a first information report (FIR) in response to Station House Officer (SHO) Nawazish Ali Khan’s complaint under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code (which deals with penalty for murder) (PPC).
The suspect’s mother, Samina Shah, reportedly called the police on Friday, September 23, to report that her son, Shahnawaz, had killed his wife with a dumbbell. This information was included in the FIR.
The FIR states that Shah informed the police that her son was present and had covered his wife’s body. The cops then searched the residence.
According to the police complaint, Shahnawaz had locked himself in his room and when the staff broke down the door, they found blood stains on his hands and clothing.
According to the FIR, Shahnawaz confessed to striking his wife repeatedly with a dumbbell during an argument and then concealing the Canadian national’s body in the bathtub once the police had Shahnawaz.
