Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 vs Galaxy Z Flip 4

A Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 vs. Galaxy Z Flip 4 comparison is more important than ever given the burgeoning foldable industry. If the next Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 is to be considered one of the greatest foldable phones, it will need to make some significant improvements. This is especially true given that Samsung may not remain the only significant competitor in the foldable market for very long.

While the Google Pixel Fold is said to be coming soon, the OnePlus V Fold has already been announced to arrive in the second half of this year. And that only applies to Americans. Hence, Samsung cannot afford to make only incremental, tiny changes to the Galaxy Z Flip 5. Luckily, several speculations suggest that the Galaxy Z Flip 4 may undergo some significant modifications.

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 probably won’t be available until the end of August since we anticipate Samsung to adhere to its customary release timetable. Yet, there have already been rumors about what may alter and how a Galaxy Z Flip 4 vs. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 comparison might turn out.

Z Flip 5 vs Z Flip 4

Almost Undetectable Wrinkle:

Among the most significant rumors regarding the upcoming Samsung foldable is the incorporation of a hinge known as the “waterdrop” hinge. The all-too-visible wrinkle in the center of the display where the phone folds shut, which is one of the greatest problems with Samsung foldable screens, will reportedly be resolved by this hinge, according to rumors.

Its design aims to allow a portion of the display to roll within the Galaxy Z Flip 5’s frame. It won’t have to fold fully flat, which prevents it from creating a wrinkle.

It would put Samsung’s foldable on par with devices like the Oppo Find N2 Flip, a phone with a barely perceptible wrinkle. The disadvantage is that Samsung’s hinge is allegedly less resilient than those of its competitors. According to reports, Samsung will give the display a 300,000 fold rating. This rating is higher than the Z Flip 4’s 200,000 fold rating, however, it falls short of Oppo’s 400,000 fold rating.

Better Chips and Performance:

The Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 processor, which is frequently seen in Android flagships that debuted in the second part of last year, is included in the Galaxy Z Flip 4. Although the CPU is certainly not a dud, we anticipate the Z Flip 5 will ship with the high-performance Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Samsung. The Galaxy S23 range uses the same processor, which offers an overclocked version of Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

In benchmarking tests, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy has already established its value, completely crushing the Gen 1 processor in single- and multi-core CPU testing. In graphics tests, it even outperformed the A16 Bionic in the iPhone 14 Pro Max, but it still fell below Apple’s top chip in CPU and video transcoding tests. Still, it’s the closest an Android phone has been in recent years to Apple silicon.

The Z Flip 5 may also have UFS 4.0 storage, which enables substantially better read/write speeds than the UFS 3.1 storage featured in the Z Flip 4. The only drawback is that Samsung only currently offers 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage, which means that any Z Flip 5 model with 128GB will only be able to operate at older speeds.

Bigger Cover Display:

The Galaxy Z Flip 4 was rumored to finally include a bigger cover display, however, this never materialized. Luckily, it appears that the Z Flip 5 will change this. In fact, the cover display could be so big that it ends up occupying nearly all of the outside shell.

According to a source, the Z Flip 5 will have a 3.6-inch cover display, which is significantly larger than the Z Flip 4’s 1.9-inch screen. Also, it is bigger than the Oppo Find N2 Flip’s 3.26-inch display, which may offer Samsung a little advantage over its Chinese rival.

There is some disagreement about the design’s specifics and whether or not the Z Flip 5’s rear camera module will be enclosed by the bigger display. Yet, a bigger screen is a bigger screen, regardless of how it appears, and that allows us to accomplish more without having to open the phone first.

With a screen this wide, Samsung could finally be able to achieve what devices like the Motorola Razr and Oppo Find N2 Flip allow you to do: access complete apps from the cover display.

A Longer-Lasting Battery:

Our battery life testing is not especially enjoyable for the Galaxy Z Flip 4. With variable refresh rate enabled, the phone clocked in at 8 hours 33 minutes, and 8 hours 57 minutes when confined to 60Hz. It’s not the worst battery life we’ve seen on a Samsung phone in recent years, but it’s far from the 11.5 hours required to make our list of best phone batteries. It also falls behind the average smartphone by about 1.5 hours.

Even though the Z Flip 5 doesn’t provide any increased battery capacity, we anticipate that it will have a substantially longer battery life. In spite of just receiving a modest 200 mAh battery size improvement, the Samsung Galaxy S23’s battery lasted more than 2.5 hours longer than the Galaxy S22. That level of development is something we anticipate happening to future Galaxy smartphones.

While the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip is already more energy-efficient than the Gen 1 chip, the battery life will undoubtedly increase. Furthermore, although having substantially quicker speeds than UFS 3.1, UFS 4.0 storage is estimated to utilize 46% less power. Although we hope Samsung has some battery-optimization tricks to help get even more time out of the Z Flip 5’s battery pack, it’s unclear how much power those two upgrades could add to the battery.

Outlook:

There are still many things we don’t know about the Galaxy Z Flip 5, which won’t likely launch for several months. The Z Flip 5 will allegedly be an upgrade over the Galaxy Z Flip 4, according to rumors that are constantly being circulated in the rumor mill.

Maybe Samsung has understood that its days as the undisputed leader in the foldable industry are over and will start introducing some more significant updates before the competition begins to erode its market dominance.
