The clamshell foldable phone from the South Korean corporation, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5, may support Google Maps on the cover display. The smartphone anticipated for release next month is said to have a 3.4-inch screen in the shape of a folder, compared to the Galaxy Z Flip 4 from last year’s model’s much smaller 1.9-inch outer display. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 will reportedly make its debut alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Tab S9 series, Galaxy Watch 6 series, and Galaxy Buds 3 at the company’s upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event in July.
The Galaxy Z Flip 5 cover display will now support optimized versions of Google’s apps, according to a report from last week. Google Maps, YouTube, and Google Messages were among the apps on the list. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 will reportedly support Google Maps on the smartphone when it is folded, according to a tipster (Twitter: @chunvn8888) who first made the claim.
Oppo, Motorola, and Vivo, competitors of Samsung, have all released smartphones with sizable outer displays that will compete with the upcoming device. However, only the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra, which will go on sale in India on July 3 after the foldable phone debuts worldwide, can display Google Maps and other optimized versions of apps on its cover screen. On the Oppo Find N2 Flip, however, you can display widgets from particular apps that have limited functionality on the lock screen.
Last month, tipster Steve Hemmerstoffer (Twitter: @OnLeaks) shared images of the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 5, which show the clamshell foldable phone sporting a significantly larger cover display. According to reports, it will be smaller than the Oppo Find N2 Flip’s 3.6-inch display but significantly larger than the 3.4-inch display on the recently released Motorola Razr 40 Ultra.
At the following Galaxy Unpacked event, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 is anticipated to go on sale. The Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Watch 6 series, Galaxy Tab S9 series, and Galaxy Buds 3 are also anticipated by the smartphone manufacturer. Although Samsung has stated that the following Unpacked event will occur in July, it has not yet provided a specific date or stated which devices it plans to unveil at the event.
