The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5’s cover display was rumored to be much larger for weeks, and now we have a clear idea of what the final design might resemble.
Samsung’s new foldable, which is expected to make its debut as early as July, is depicted in a new set of renders by Steve H. McFly, aka @OnLeaks, with a noticeably larger exterior screen. The Galaxy Z Flip 5’s cover display has a notch on the right side, directly above the dual cameras and flash, but it’s still a significant improvement, according to a report.
The leaker claims a 3.4-inch cover display, which would be a significant improvement over the Galaxy Z Flip 4’s 1.9-inch OLED panel. Although the Galaxy Z Flip 5 has the same size 6.7-inch interior screen as the previous model, the reported dimensions are 165 x 71.8 x 6.7mm unfolded versus 165.2 x 71.9 x 6.9mm for that device.
The Z Flip 4’s exterior display has many features that you can use, such as checking notifications, battery life, and the weather. Additionally, you could access more widgets, turn on the camera viewfinder for selfies, and choose a unique background (image or GIF). I’m therefore interested to see what Samsung does with the additional space.
Samsung will undoubtedly face competition from Motorola for the title of the best foldable phone with a flip design since Motorola has already hinted that the Motorola Razr 2023 will have a 3.5-inch cover screen.
Other Galaxy Z Flip 5 Rumored Upgrades:
According to the MediaPeanut report, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 may have a hinge in the shape of a waterdrop, just like the Galaxy Z Fold 5. This could make the design more robust while also reducing the appearance of display creasing.
The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is anticipated to have the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor as the Galaxy S23 series and an upgrade to UFS 4.0 storage for models with 256GB or more of capacity.
Expect a telephoto zoom since the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is expected to once again have dual 12MP cameras. For better low-light performance, though, we’re hoping Samsung uses bigger or better sensors. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip’s computational photography goodness will, of course, benefit the phone.
We haven’t heard much about the price of the Galaxy Z Flip 5, so for the time being we’re assuming the new model will cost around $999, £999, or AU$1,449. The most recent rumors and leaks can be found on our Galaxy Z Flip 5 page.
