The most significant changes between Samsung’s most recent value-priced phone and its predecessor will be highlighted by our comparison of the Galaxy A54 and Galaxy A53.

Samsung’s Galaxy A series phones provide a more affordable option to the main Galaxy S family while yet having some of the same top-notch specifications. With some additional improvements over the previous Galaxy A53 and a reduced gap between the new Galaxy S23 and the Galaxy A54, the new phone may be the best Samsung model for consumers on a tight budget.

To demonstrate the differences that a year of development makes, we’ve compared all the important features of the Galaxy A54 and Galaxy A53 below. This should help you decide which phone to buy or whether it’s worthwhile to replace your current A53 with the newest model.

Price and availability:

With a beginning price of $449/£449 and somewhat varied starting specifications, the Samsung Galaxy A54 goes on sale in the United States and the United Kingdom on April 6 and April 25, respectively. In the US, you receive 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, whereas, in Europe, you get 8GB and 128 GB. For US purchasers, that is the same price as the Galaxy A53, however, for UK customers, it is somewhat more expensive because the A53 originally cost £399.

Also, each zone receives a more costly Galaxy A54. With this, you can upgrade to 8GB RAM for $50 or 256GB of storage for £50 extra.

Design and Display:

The aesthetics of these two phones differ significantly. The camera block rises subtly from the main rear panel of the Galaxy A53 in accordance with the previously established Galaxy A design language. Instead, the Galaxy A54 emulates the Galaxy S23, which has two discrete cameras built into a flat glass back.

Nonetheless, both phones still have somewhat thick bezels and a punch-hole front camera, giving them a similar appearance from the front. Samsung, however, reduced the Galaxy A54’s OLED display from 6.5 to 6.4 inches in size from the Galaxy A53’s. The refresh rate is 120Hz, and the resolution is still FHD.

Cameras:

It’s pretty hard to see that the newer Galaxy A54 has one fewer camera than the Galaxy A53, but on paper, the Galaxy A54’s sensor quality is superior overall.

The Galaxy A54 has four cameras with a 50MP main sensor, a 12MP ultrawide, a 5MP macro, and a 32MP selfie camera. The Galaxy A53 has four cameras with a 64MP main sensor, a 12MP ultrawide, a 5MP macro, a 32MP selfie camera, and an additional back 5MP depth sensor.

It’s a major accomplishment for a mid-range phone since the 50MP sensor in the Galaxy A54 appears to be an exact replica of the one found in the Galaxy S23. While having fewer megapixels than the earlier model, the bigger sensor and pixels should result in brighter pictures overall and, ideally, better images overall, especially in low-light conditions.

Performance:

The Galaxy A54 has a brand-new Exynos 1380 processor. In the A54 compared to the 1280 chip in the Galaxy A53, Samsung claims 20% faster CPU performance and 26% better Graphics performance.

Also, the Galaxy A54 now, for the first time, has 8GB RAM and 256GB storage choices. The regular A54 for US clients still has 6GB of Memory and 128GB of storage, while the more costly variant has 8GB RAM. In Europe, 8GB is the norm; the entry-level model has 128GB of storage, while the top-tier model has 256GB.

Battery and Charging:

The charge and battery capacity of the Galaxy A54 has not changed since last year. It has a 5,000 mAh battery, just like the Galaxy A53, and can be charged at up to 25W, albeit a charger isn’t included in the package.

Because of significant performance improvements, Samsung promises that the Galaxy A54’s battery may last up to two and a half days. Even if the Galaxy A54 doesn’t survive that long under typical use, it’s an increase of half a day over the Galaxy A53’s headline promise, so maybe it will outperform its predecessor.

Software:

Both the Galaxy A54 and Galaxy A53 are subject to a four-year cycle of complete Android upgrades. The Galaxy A54 is newer than the A53, so that’s the sole difference—that guarantee now extends farther.

Both devices now use Android 13 with Samsung’s One UI 5.1 on top. By doing so, you may access tools like Image Clipper cuts for photographs and Modes for various circumstances.

Outlook:

If you check the Galaxy A54’s specifications sheet, you’re better off choosing it until you discover a very excellent price on a Galaxy A53. Better cameras, a quicker CPU with more memory options, and an additional year of Android upgrades are all features of this device.

Although the A53 includes a dedicated depth sensor for the camera and a little bigger display, we don’t believe these features are enough to convince consumers to choose the older model.
