Witchcraft is suspected of being involved in the heinous theft of a woman’s head from her tomb.
The shocking incident, which occurred earlier this year at a cemetery north of Rio de Janeiro, is only now being known in Brazil.
According to G1, even the woman’s family was not informed about the newest horrifying crime for weeks after cops were alerted to it. Sabrina Tavares, 31, was laid to rest in August after reportedly being murdered by her ex-brother-in-law.
Police received a report of vandalism at the tomb in March. When they looked into it, they discovered that criminals had smashed through the concrete and forced the coffin lid open.
A bowl, along with bottles and papers, had been left in place of Sabrina’s head in the Nova Iguaçu cemetery.
Her family didn’t learn about the heinous news until April, when Sabrina’s father, Jorge Gomes, paid a visit to the location to drop flowers. A cemetery worker noticed him and recommended him to meet with his superiors.
Jorge, 52, stated, “They said the tomb had been broken into and that I needed to wait for a report to be ready to find out what happened.”
It was 40 days before the cops told Sabrina’s family their daughter’s head had been cut off by people looking to perform a religious ritual.
“I want them to give me an answer – to do something about it,” Jorge said.
“You bury someone and they do this? My daughter had been dead for eight months and they did this. It’s a horrible thing.”
Poor Sabrina was allegedly shot by her former brother-in-law, Matheus da Silva, because he was pissed off that she got to keep the house that once belonged to his brother – former cop Cristiano da Silva, who was murdered in 2016. Matheus da Silva was particularly annoyed that Sabrina was living there with her new boyfriend while receiving his brother’s pension.
He shot her six times in her bed last August when she was sleeping, as well as her mother, Fátima de Azevedo, who survived.
Matheus da Silva was later released from prison pending his trial.
Police believe Sabrina’s head theft was unrelated to her death.
