The ex-NFL player Ryan Mallett’s fiancee posted a touching tribute to the quarterback on social media following his tragic death last week.
The 35-year-old tragically passed away while on vacation in Florida with Carter. He had previously played for the New England Patriots, Houston Texans, and Baltimore Ravens.
Mallett was among a party of up to 12 people who were caught in turbulent waves and battling offshore in the coastal town of Destin, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s office.
Mallett got caught in a riptide, was retrieved from the ocean unconscious, and was later declared dead in the emergency room of a hospital.
And following the tragic passing of the NFL quarterback, who had become a high-school football coach following his retirement in 2017, Carter took to Facebook to issue an emotional tribute to her partner.
She wrote: “I trust that God has a plan for everything, but I don’t think I will never understand why this happened. I’m so sorry I couldn’t save you, and I hope you know how hard I tried.”
“Everyone knows how talented, dedicated, and passionate you were about the game of football. Those of us who were lucky enough to know your heart know that it was even bigger than your larger-than-life personality and stature. Nothing was ever about you, it was always about others.
