A former Riverdale actor has been found guilty of murdering his mother with a gun while she was practising the piano, according to a judge’s announcement.
After Ryan Grantham, 24, admitted to killing his mother Barbara Waite at their Vancouver home in the second degree in 2020, the judge gave him a life sentence.
According to CBC, Justice Kathleen Ker handed down the verdict on Tuesday and referred to the circumstances as unfortunate and heartbreaking.
She said that the “life-shattering” consequences of Grantham’s crime were stressed in the victim impact statements.
Unsettling information about the Diary of a Wimpy Kid actor was discovered throughout the investigation, which led to the sentencing.
Before carrying out the plot, Grantham, who was 21 at the time, allegedly practised the attack on his mother.
Grantham left towards Trudeau’s house but ultimately turned around to carry out violent crimes elsewhere, according to the prosecution’s case in court.
According to reports, Grantham considered carrying out a large-scale attack at Simon Fraser University or on the regularly used Lions Gate Bridge in Vancouver.
According to Fox News, Grantham’s psychological records indicate that his motivation for killing his mother was to prevent her from witnessing the other violent actions he planned to conduct.
“I’m so sorry mom, I’m so sorry Lisa … I hate myself,” he wrote in a March 31, 2020, journal entry, according to prosecutors.
“There’s a lot of media of me out there … film and TV … hundreds of hours of me that can be viewed and dissected … No one will understand.”
Grantham had been in a downward spiral for months before to the crime, according to Ker, who spoke during the sentence.
According to the justice, he was observed consuming marijuana and viewing violent videos on the dark web more frequently.
According to Ker, Grantham’s mental condition may have had a mitigating effect on the murder because he reportedly felt alone and obsessed by violent ideas.
She disclosed that Grantham is now receiving mental care while inside and that she has heard nothing but good things about his behaviour.
Additionally, Ker accepted Grantham’s June apology and expressed her belief that he is sincere in his regret.
Grantham said in a court statement earlier this year: “I am unable to defend or excuse my actions. I have no apologies.”
“It hurts me to think about how badly I’ve wasted my life.
“Someday, if I’m ever released from prison, I hope to continue on this path of bettering myself.”
