Due to the jury’s impasse, RYAN Giggs’ assault trial against ex-girlfriend Kate Greville today sensationally fell apart.
The former Manchester United player, 48, was on trial for allegedly headbutting 38-year-old PR executive Kate and restraining her for three years.
He disputed the accusations as well as the claim that he assaulted Kate’s 26-year-old sister Emma.
Jurors spent 22 hours and 59 minutes deliberating after being sent out at Manchester Crown Court last Tuesday.
With a hearing scheduled for September 7 to decide whether there would be a retrial, which might take place in June 2023, they were unable to reach a verdict today.
Jurors previously heard how Kate’s sister Emma was taking care of the then-pet couple’s Mac on November 1, 2020, while they had dinner at the Stock Exchange Hotel in Manchester. The trial was heated, and the sports star sobbed as she spoke.
After discovering “proof” that Giggs had cheated on her with eight different women, the PR executive, according to Emma, had already made plans to separate from him while he was away on tour.
This number increased to at least 12 in later messages handed to the jury, and the former Wales manager’ love life was exposed as he admitted he had never been true to any woman, including Kate and his ex-wife Stacey.
Emma claimed that an altercation broke out after an inebriated Giggs and a “visibly unhappy” Kate got home from dinner, and he picked up some of her sister’s items and put them in the hallway.
There was apparently then “physical contact” and Giggs lay on top of Kate with “his face in line with hers”.
Emma remarked, “I could tell by the expressions on her face that she was in pain.
After Kate cried “get him off me,” he withdrew, but, according to the testimony given in court, he soon became “very enraged,” put both of his hands on Kate’s shoulders, and headbutted her in the lip.
