MYSTERY still surrounds the death of a Brit two years after he fell to his death while on holiday in Turkey with his fiancée, an inquest heard.
In October 2020, Ryan Collier, 34, fell from a fourth-floor balcony of the Sun Apart Hotel in Marmaris, suffering severe injuries.
According to Sunderland Senior Coroner Derek Winter, it is “difficult” to determine whether Ryan committed himself or fell accidently.
Six witness accounts were given at the inquiry, and each one had “inconsistent details” that contributed to the uncertainty surrounding his death.
Four witnesses reported hearing Ryan being yelled at to get down before he “immediately came off the balcony.”
Donna Noble, his partner, attested that she saw him standing on the railings prior to his “sudden jump.”
Her daughter corroborated her account of what happened, although other witnesses said Ryan was sitting on the rails or hanging from the balcony.
The Foreign Office reportedly made significant efforts to gather additional evidence, but these efforts were hindered, the court was informed.
Prior to the catastrophe, Ryan was out to dinner with his partner, her daughter, and a friend.
According to several witnesses, there was a fight that Ryan allegedly left before later returning due to.
He claimed to be returning to his room after a drink at the hotel, but was spotted on the balcony instead.
Ryan was taken to the hospital right away and put on life support, but he tragically passed away.
His death was attributed to bronchial pneumonia brought on by a blow to the head, according to a post mortem.
According to Ryan’s family, he also had a cracked skull, a broken neck, and a swollen brain.
Mr. Winter expressed an unresolved opinion, saying it was impossible to know for certain if he had intentionally killed himself or had fallen.
He said: “If I knew that, I would record the appropriate conclusion.”
Speaking after the hearing, Ryan’s dad Brian, 66, said: “The outcome is what we expected.
“The big fear was him saying Ryan had committed suicide – we knew he did not.
“We will probably never find all the answers.”
