TRIBUTES have been paid to a “talented” teenage rugby player who was discovered dead at the age of 17.
Logan Luker, of Tonypandy, Wales, was discovered by his mother after committing himself in November 2021, despite having no history of mental health issues, according to an inquest.
The hearing at Pontypridd Coroner’s Court was heard that he had had a pleasant upbringing but had indicated feelings of depression in the weeks preceding the catastrophe.
This was assumed to be due to his inability to find work.
His family praised him as a “special person” and “the best son,” and he “gave his heart and soul” to the sport he adored.
Logan captained his local rugby club’s young squad and was described as a “true gentleman” by his family.
The family’s statement read: “He was the best son and brother and we loved him so much. He was a true young gentleman who tried to make everyone smile.
“Please, please if anyone is struggling – please speak out because we as a family are broken and we wouldn’t want anyone else to go through what we are.”
A tribute from Penygraig RFC, Logan’s club, said: “Our sincere and heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, and all those who played alongside him.
“Logan was a well-liked and highly-respected young rugby player. The tragic news of his passing comes as a huge shock to everyone who knows him.
“Logan was a very talented player who gave his heart and soul to playing rugby. He was fearless on the field, would run at anything in his way, and would always get back up be ready to go again at any stage of the game.
Coroner Patricia Morgan returned a verdict of suicide.
She said that there was “no evidence of third-party involvement” and that it was “likely” that the teen intended to end his own life.
