After they interred her mother in the wrong cemetery, a woman is suing a Jewish funeral home. Additionally, the mother of the woman was interred next to a total stranger dressed as another woman at the funeral home called Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels in Ocean Township, New Jersey.
The incident was found at the funeral on October 5, 2020, the Daily Mail reports, and the woman was identified as Robin Kay Lord. Funeral attendees were frightened, and a woman in her 90s almost passed out. The dead was named as Janet Kay, who passed away on October 3, 2020, at the age of 82 following a protracted illness. Jewish custom dictates that the funeral normally occurs the day following the demise.
Criminal defense lawyer Robin Kay Lord told the Daily Mail, “I want them to be held accountable so that another family doesn’t have to go through this. “I recall instructing them particularly to make sure that she is wearing the clothing I gave them,” the woman continued, “because if we opened the coffin and she was wearing someone else’s clothes, then it would be a complete disaster.”
The funeral home worker “reassured” her that her mother would be treated with respect and that the garments would be put on her after the customary “tahara” [an ancient Jewish ritual in which the corpse of a deceased person is washed before they are buried].
On October 5, 2020, as her family and friends awaited the start of the service, Lord’s mother’s body did not show up. She emphasized that the Rabbi and the mourners waited at the cemetery for the casket for almost 30 minutes. Then she gave the funeral home a call. Lord stated, “They were stuttering and stammering. I urged them to cut the s**t and tell me where my mother is.”
Lord added that she saw a strange woman in a casket while on FaceTime with the funeral home and was wearing her mother’s purple suit, long gold chain, and wedding band. “I was yelling, ‘What did you do to her? “, she said after losing her composure. Mother, where are you? Then they said they didn’t know where she was, she continued. Lord revealed that the service was conducted without her mother’s body at that point. Later, she learned that the deceased was interred next to a complete stranger in a grave at a different Jewish cemetery in North Jersey.
When Lord realized she was wearing someone else’s clothes and wearing someone else’s wedding ring, she was astonished. Her mother’s body was switched with that of another woman because they both passed away on the same day. Lord stated the same thing, adding, “Mind-boggling, just unthinkable,” and that “They did the washing together and that is when their bodies were switched.” She said, “My mother’s body was not handled correctly.”
The funeral home misled Lord, according to a statement she made to DailyMail, by telling her that her mother could not be buried on October 4th, the day after her passing. However, she was interred on October 4 at the incorrect cemetery and in the incorrect grave. It was necessary to exhume Kay’s body and have her daughter identify her decaying body in order to rectify the botched scenario. ” The family held a private ceremony on October 8th. It was now her last resting place after being buried in a mausoleum at a cometary in Marlboro, New Jersey.
