This week, the former Navy SEAL who claims to have killed Osama bin Laden was apprehended in Texas.
Robert J. O’Neill, 47, was arrested Wednesday in Frisco on a Class A misdemeanor charge of assault causing bodily harm and a Class C misdemeanor charge of public intoxication, though jail records only mentioned the assault allegation, according to The Dallas Morning News.
Frisco police declined to give any additional details regarding the arrest on Friday.
On the same day, O’Neill was released on a $3,500 bond.
O’Neill was in town for a podcast recording at a local cigar lounge.
He did not respond to The Washington Post’s request for comment.
O’Neill, a former SEAL Team 6 member, rose to public fame after claiming responsibility for firing the rounds that killed 9/11 mastermind Osama bin Laden during a secret mission in 2011.
O’Neill detailed the incident in his 2017 memoir “The Operator.”
The report has never been confirmed or disputed by the US government.
O’Neill’s arrest in Texas is far from his first brush with scandal.
Delta Airlines barred the outspoken veteran from flying in 2020 because he refused to wear a mask.
In 2016, he was arrested for drunk driving in Montana, which prosecutors eventually dropped, according to CBS News.
