Babar Azam, the captain of Pakistan, and wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan have no plans to miss the forthcoming Sharjah T20 International series against Afghanistan.
A media source claims that the Haroon Rasheed-led selection committee is debating whether to rest several veteran players, notably Babar and Rizwan, for the Afghanistan series. The Lahore Qalandars captain has been briefed about Shaheen Afridi taking over as Pakistan’s team captain in lieu of Babar, according to the report.
The pair, according to people close to them, are eager to participate in the series.
No senior PCB representative or Chief Selector has gotten in touch with them to discuss taking a break from the aforementioned series. Babar and Rizwan are not under a lot of strain during the PSL since they receive ample rest in between games in the premier league. They no longer need to relax since they are feeling refreshed.
According to those who are close to them, forcing them to take a break may disrupt the team’s cohesion. After some time, everyone in the locker room is now encouraging one another.
It should be mentioned that a number of national team members from Afghanistan are competing in the current PSL and doing well. As a result, the Men in Green won’t have an easy time winning the series against the Afghan side.
When asked about the situation, PCB sources said that no final decision had yet been made. The selection committee is currently considering its alternatives.
The PCB and Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) also concurred on Thursday to make a few minor changes to the series schedule.
The first game of the series will now begin on March 24, and the last two games will be played in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, on March 26 and 27.
