According to authorities, a SCAFFOLDER died after falling from a platform and his safety jacket did not unzip.
After falling from a rig at Kiewit Offshore Services and into the Gulf close to Corpus Christi, Texas, Ricardo Jazael Laredo Padron, 29, passed away on Saturday.
According to the US Coast Guard, he was last seen wearing a blue manually inflatable life jacket, a safety harness, and a tool belt.
Four hours after the event was reported, commercial divers in La Quinta Channel found the body submerged in the sea.
After the worker hadn’t surfaced for 15 minutes following the fall, sonar technology is said to have been used to find the body.
The company released a statement saying, “This news is terrible and our thoughts go out to the subcontractor employee’s family, friends, and coworkers.”
“We are very thankful to the Coast Guard, local dive teams and other first responders who quickly and diligently responded to the scene on Saturday.”
The corporation will hold required safety stand downs this week with all facilities staff, according to the statement.
Laredo Padron’s inflatable personal flotation device didn’t open, according to Aransas Pass, which is likely what caused his death.
According to Oscar Rivera, the sheriff of San Patricio County, it’s unknown how the scaffolder fell from the platform.
Laredo Padron reportedly fell off the NFE Pioneer III, formerly known as the West Freedom Rig, according to the US Coast Guard and THE U.S. Sun.
They wrote in an email, “The person fell while working underneath the rig’s helicopter pad.”
The height of the rig could not be provided by the Coast Guard.
