The government would provide free natural gas for residential use up to 25 cubic meters per month, according to Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan.
Erdogan also declared that all residential natural gas usage will be unlimited for the following month while speaking at a ceremony for Turkey’s first onshore natural gas supply from a reserve in the Black Sea close to the province of Zonguldak in the north.
He continued by saying that for a year, household gas used in bathrooms and kitchens would also be provided free of charge at a rate of roughly 25 cubic meters per month.
In the midst of a severe cost-of-living crisis, consumers would save 1,500 Lira ($77.2) annually or 125 Lira ($6.44) each month, according to the estimates.
Ankara plans to pump the first Black Sea gas to residential areas prior to the presidential and legislative elections on May 14. This could boost Erdogan’s popularity.
