Your day will be made by the tale of two firefighters rescuing an elk that had fallen into an ice pond by mistake. The event happened on February 17 at around 8:00 p.m. in Evergreen, Colorado. The Evergreen Fire Rescue department offered a peek at their quick rescue effort in an official tweet, which was well-received by internet users and animal lovers around. The agency shared a brief video of the event, in which two firemen are seen attempting to clear a path toward the fractured ice sheet so the creature may escape on its own.
But when the animal was unable to, the rescuers made the decision to manually remove the elk. It is assumed that the creature may have strayed a little bit toward the pond’s edge while apparently sipping water. The rescue effort appeared challenging at one point when the firefighter’s grip on the elk’s front legs failed. Against all odds, the rescuing team gives it their all to remove the animal in a single pull at the next second. Once the animal is removed, the rescuers wait a short while to see whether it can get up on its own.
The elk’s safe condition at the time it was eventually able to stand up has been established. The elk also turned around and walked a few ways back before departing. The agency tweeted that a couple of witnesses observed the elk in trouble and called 911 to ask for assistance. According to the agency, the pond is situated in bear Timbervale David.
The tweet states, “Earlier this evening (Feb. 17), our firefighters rescued an elk after it broke through ice on a pond near Timbervale Drive. Human witnesses did the right thing and called 911.”
