A HEARTBROKEN father is preparing to travel to Albania in order to “get justice” for his tragically drowned British daughter who was killed while scuba diving.
Rebecca Gannon, 29, of Stone, Staffordshire, passed away in September after getting into trouble while scuba diving in Saranda, a resort on the southern coast, with her partner.
According to her father George, her passing has “totally shattered” the family, according to Stoke on Trent Live.
Before diving to an old wreck, Rebecca, sometimes known as Beccie, supposedly realised that something was wrong with her diving equipment and requested that it be changed.
After barely five minutes below the surface, George, 61, said he comprehends that his daughter “came back up panicked and asking for help.”
According to reports, a diving instructor dove in to try to save the British woman, but she fell again.
Rebecca’s cause of death has been ruled as “drowning” – but her devastated family are now calling for answers over her death.
George told Stoke on Trent Live: “I’m going to put my daughter to rest and then go straight to Albania and stay there until I find out how she was killed.
“I was completely heartbroken and I have never been in my whole life, now I am angry.
“We haven’t got any justice and I won’t come back until I am able to tell my wife and children I’ve found justice. I won’t leave until I get the answers.”
George intends to learn as much as he can about Rebecca’s death once he arrives in Albania, and he’s ready to go to court if necessary.
In order to “fund money to find the facts surrounding her passing,” the family has set up a JustGiving website.
“I will stay there as long as possible to find out the truth,” George said.
“We’re talking about a 29-year-old lady who had the whole world ahead of her. By somebody’s stupidity or lack of experience, she is now dead.”
“We’ll never sleep easy until we find out the truth.”
Robert Kerans, Rebecca’s four-year-old boyfriend, claimed that there were three instructors for every 12 divers on the diving excursion.
He asserted that Gerta Brozi, one of the instructors, didn’t appear to “pay much attention” to the pre-dive checks and that Rebecca’s equipment had a malfunction.
