Queen Elizabeth II Funeral
The queen’s funeral will take place 10 days after her death, following the traditional observance of a national period of mourning.
After passing away peacefully on September 8, 2022, at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, the Queen’s body is anticipated to travel by royal train to London.
Leaked government documents describing the funeral arrangements refer to the transporting of the monarch’s body from her home in Scotland as Operation Unicorn.
If a train isn’t available, The Queen’s body will fly into London.
Where does The Queen’s body move to?
The casket will be transported to the Palace of Westminster to lie in state on the fifth day following The Queen’s passing, which is referred to as D-Day+5 in the official government preparations for Operation London Bridge.
Starting at Buckingham Palace, the procession will travel the official route through London, where the general public can assemble to see it.
There will be a liturgy in Westminster Hall when the casket gets to Westminster.
The Queen will then spend the following three days in repose at the Palace of Westminster.
Her casket will be in the centre of Westminster Hall, draped in her personal standard and placed on a catafalque, a decorated raised platform.
The public is welcome to pay their respects to the deceased king by visiting the casket 24 hours a day throughout these three days.

King Edward VII inaugurated the custom of lying in state in Westminster Hall in 1910.
Since then, hundreds of millions of people have watched kings like The Queen’s father King George VI and prime ministers like Sir Winston Churchill lie in public.
The Queen will have a state funeral held at Westminster Abbey on the tenth day following her passing.
Following the formal service, the coffin will be brought from London to Windsor, and there will be processions on both sides.
At Windsor Castle, where numerous members of the Royal family have been interred since the 19th century, there will be a committal service.
