Amir Mir and Dr. Javed Akram, the caretaker minister for Punjab, announced during a press conference that the Sehat Card program had undergone some changes. The press conference stated that Sehat Card benefits are no longer available to those who are charged an electricity bill of Rs. 10,000 or more.
Additionally, Sehat Card users are not allowed to travel internationally or receive phone bills totaling more than Rs. 8,000. According to Dr. Javed Akram, someone who can afford such expenses cannot be categorized as being poor. Data to consider the deserving status will be taken from the Social Welfare Department to make sure that the resources are allocated in the right way.
The interim minister noted that the card had previously been abused. Additionally, he made it clear that the government has no plans for the Sehat Cards that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf introduced. According to Dr. Javed, the policy has been modified to conserve resources, and a fund of Rs. 1.5 billion has been set up.
Additionally, only government hospitals will offer complimentary heart treatments. To prevent any misuse, the use of the Pakistani flag on the card will also be restricted or eliminated, and CNICs will now be regarded as Sehat Cards. Dr. Javed added that this scheme was actually started in 2015, under the administration of Nawaz Sharif.
The Sehat Card program will still be offered but with some new restrictions.
