Pro Bull rider Omar Lateef Allen aka Ouncie Allen, age 27, was killed in a domestic violence-related shooting in the Central Ninth area soon after midnight on Monday.
Demetrius Omar Lateef Allen, who was in a relationship, according to the Salt Lake City Police Department, was tragically shot during a confrontation with a 21-year-old woman.
“Ouncie got his name because he was born small,” Gleason said. “He grew up to compete with a huge heart. The PBR organization sincerely extends our own heartfelt condolences to Ouncie’s cousin Ezekiel Mitchell and the entire Mitchell family.”
Allen had gone to Salt Lake City to attend the Utah State Fair and stay with the woman before the shooting, according to the police. According to the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, Allen participated in a bull riding contest on Sunday night at the fair.
After the fair, Allen and the woman headed to a bar in the city, where they allegedly got into a fight. Allen was shot while returning to the woman’s apartment around 900 South and 200 West to get his belongings.
Allen was discovered by police outside the apartment building and given first aid before being taken to a hospital, where he passed away.
The alleged shooter was taken into custody by police. She was incarcerated in Salt Lake County on felony and murder suspicions.
According to Sean Gleason, CEO of the Professional Bull Riders, Allen was better known as the bull rider “Ouncie Mitchell.” He was a Houston, Texas, native.
