After appearing on stage wearing a “see-through” dress, a beauty queen infuriated the audience.
Model Phuong Anh, 24, wore a translucent yellow dress that was “flimsy” and displayed her undergarments.
She had appeared on stage to award Trinh Thuy Linh, the first runner-up, with the prize.
Following a commotion over the gown, the 2022 Miss Vietnam contest organisers have now been forced to issue an apology.
After the presentation, Phuong, the first runner up in 2020, said she had “learned her lesson” and was “ashamed” by the dress.
In response to complaints from fans about the contentious dress, the event’s organisers apologised.
“It’s quite regrettable that an incident happened to the outfit of runner-up Pham Ngoc Phuong Anh,” they stated in a statement to VnExpress.
“The dress when seen from certain angles created an unflattering image on stage.
“And the organisers of the 2022 Miss Vietnam apologise to the audience and fans for not having anticipated and being unable to prevent the incident beforehand.”
Pham Kim Dung, the deputy head of the organising committee, stated that the stage attire is typically chosen with great care in advance of the event.
On this particular occasion, however, not all of the lights were turned on during the dress rehearsal, so they were unable to see a problem with the gown.
Twitter and Facebook were overrun with complaints about the clothing, while some jumped to Phuong’s defence.
One said: “This outfit is not appropriate even for a beauty contest.”
Another added: “It does not look good on television. She should be more careful next time.”
