Pete Garner, 61, the bassist for THE STONE ROSES, passed away.
When the band first came together in 1983, the star was a member of the original lineup. It’s thought that he lost his fight with cancer.
Ian Brown, the band’s frontman, paid homage to the rocker today.
Brown wrote: “Yeah very sad. We were young punk rockers when we met in 77.
“The night before Pete’s maths and geography O levels we went to see the Clash.
“Always made me chuckle he did that and of course, he made the right decision!”
He added: “Few loved music as much as Pete.
“He had been bathing in music since Anarchy in the UK came out.
“That I can vouch for and Pete was off the scale nice, an old skool nice that ya just don’t get no more!
“He got that from his lovely Mum! GOD Bless Pete RIP.”
Garner had gone to school with guitarist John Squire and Brown, and the three of them performed as The Patrol until 1980.
After three years, they joined forces to form The Stone Roses, featuring Simon Wolstencroft on drums and Andy Couzens on rhythm guitar.
They released their first song in 1984 and performed at their first show in October of the same year.
But in 1987, following the release of their second single, Garner quit the group to take a job at HMV.
