A Bronx woman who was impaled on a fence in an accident on Friday night has passed away, according to her relatives.
At 6:30 on Friday night, a grey Lexus SUV struck Paulina Nrecaj, 59, in front of her building at 2040 Bronxdale Avenue. She was thrown against a metal fence by the car when it jumped the curb and a spike went through her.
According to her family, the stay-at-home mother of three and grandma of one was on her way to order pizza.
Her daughter Diana Nrecaj, 32, told The Post that after being transported to Jacobi Hospital, her mother passed away following surgery.
“She was a good, sweet woman. She was a very good sweet woman,” Nrecaj said. “She didn’t deserve this. She was four steps away from her home.”
“He came downstairs and there was a gentleman in the building holding my mother until EMS came and arrived,” she said.
Frane Nrecaj, 71, said he knew right away that his wife of 40 years wasn’t going to make it.
“She was passed out. She lost a lot of blood coming from her mouth, a lot of blood coming from her nose,” Nrecaj said.
He said his wife, a native of Albania, had recently celebrated her birthday.
“To me she was a great person. She raised my kids. She was perfect. The kids were happy in their life. She was happy,” he said.
Nrecaj was assisted down the fence and given assurances that everything would be alright by Sall Arobye, a 32-year-old Uber driver who lives across the street.
Do you think I made it, she asked? Yes, you can make it, I said. Keep your head up,'” he recalls.
The hurt woman, according to him, thanked him.
