In August or September, the South Africa women’s cricket team will visit Pakistan for the first time. This will mark the beginning of a busy international cricket season for the Pakistan women’s cricket team in 2023–24.

From September 1–14, Karachi will host three ICC Women’s Championship 2022–25 ODIs and three T20 Internationals for South Africa. South Africa has only played one series of three ODIs and has six points, while Pakistan is currently second on the points table with five victories in nine ODIs (three series).

Pakistan hosted South Africa in Sharjah during the inaugural ICC Women’s Championship 2014–16, with the African team taking the series 2-1. In the 2017–20 season, Pakistan traveled to South Africa, and the series—which included a thrilling tie in the third ODI played in Benoni—ended in a 1–1 draw.

The fourth prominent national women’s team to visit Pakistan in recent years will be from South Africa. Sri Lanka and Ireland played ODIs and T20Is in Karachi and Lahore, respectively, in May and November 2022. West Indies women played three T20Is in Karachi in January 2019. Separately, the three Women’s League Exhibition games in Rawalpindi in March featured 11 cricket players from seven nations, including three captains.

One of Pakistan’s five appearances in the ICC Women’s Championship during the 2023–24 season will be in the home series against South Africa. Pakistan will visit Bangladesh in October and then will make trips to New Zealand in November and England in May 2024. In April 2024, Pakistan will host the West Indies prior to their tour of England.

This means that over the course of the next 12 months, Pakistan’s female cricketers will play in 15 ODIs and 17 T20Is for the ICC Women’s Championship. The team is also anticipated to compete in the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, in September, so the number of T20Is will probably rise. When women’s cricket was added to the Asian Games, Pakistan’s women’s team won gold in Guangzhou (2010) and Incheon (2014).

The Pakistan Women’s Wing has also scheduled two developing series against the West Indies (in October) and Bangladesh (in January) with the intention of identifying talent and investing in the future. Pakistan will play three 50-over and three T20 matches against the West Indies Emerging team, while the Pakistan U19 team will play five T20 games while on tour in Bangladesh.

All-arounder Nida Dar’s first series as captain will be the upcoming matchup with South Africa. With 99 ODIs and 130 T20Is under his belt, Nida is one of the most seasoned players in the nation.

The Pakistan women’s cricket team will have a very busy next year, according to captain Nida Dar of Pakistan. “I look forward to the upcoming assignments with excitement and anticipation,” she said. “These games will make a big difference in our efforts to gain exposure and experience, as well as close the gap with the front-runners.”

“My first series as captain will be the home series against South Africa to kick off the busy season. In addition to scoring a century in one-day internationals, I want to help the team rack up valuable ICC Women’s Championship points so that we can place in the upper half of the draw. However, given that South Africa is an experienced team with a wealth of talented players, we will need to play exceptionally well in order to succeed.”

Suné Luus, who led South Africa in the 2023 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup and participated in exhibition games for the Women’s League in Rawalpindi, said: “I am incredibly thrilled to be returning to play a bilateral series in Pakistan. After traveling to Pakistan earlier this year for exhibition games of the women’s league, I was genuinely moved by the country’s gracious hospitality and its ardent cricket supporters. It was wonderful to be there and explore the nation, and the players were all incredibly friendly.”

“I anticipate a good series because Pakistan is always a fiercely competitive and dangerous team in their own backyard. We are all anticipating the ODIs because they are an important part of the ICC Women’s Championship for women’s cricket.”
