The Pakistan Meteorological Department forecast on Saturday that a new “cold wave” was set to hit Sindh, including Karachi, starting on Sunday, with the province capital’s temperature expected to plummet to 6-8 °C for the ensuing five days.
“Sindh province is set to see another cold wave starting tomorrow. According to its most recent projection, the minimum temperature may drop to 2-4°C in the districts of Sukkur, Ghotki, Larkana, Qambar Shahdadkot, Kashmore, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Jamshoro, Dadu, Khairpur, Tharparker, and Umerkot.
In the districts of Karachi, Hyderabad, Badin, Thatta, and Sujawal, the mercury may drop to 6–8°C.
The Met Office said that Karachi’s weather will stay “cold and dry” over the following two days, with the temperature in the major city falling to 7°C on Monday. From January 21 to January 23, the city’s highest temperatures will range from 21 to 25°C.
Meanwhile, Matiari, Mirpur Khas, Naushahro Feroze, Sanghar Shaheed Benazirabad, Tando Muhammad Khan, and Tando Allahyar districts may experience temperatures as low as 3-5°C, according to the PMD.
Earlier, Owais Hyder, the founder of Pak Meteorological Network and a weather analyst, was reported by Dawn as saying that the rest of Pakistan would see extreme weather conditions in the next days.
He made reference to the “weak polar vortex,” which causes Siberian winds to intensify and blow strongly in the area, causing a chilly wave.
“So many areas may see record-breaking events of this winter season in the coming days,” he said.
