In its most recent weather update, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecast snowfall and rain in several regions of the nation. Details indicate that a westerly wave is anticipated to hit upper sections of north Balochistan on the weekend of January 6th and 7th.
On January 7 and 8, Quetta, Zhob, Barkhan, Ziarat, Nokkundi, Dalbandin, Harnai, Qilla Saifullah, Qilla Abdullah, Chaman, and Pishin can anticipate light to moderate rain (with snowfall over the hills).
From January 7 to January 9, moderate rain (with snowfall over the hills) is forecast for Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir (Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur), Gilgit Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar), Chitral, Dir, Swa
During the weekend, light rain is also anticipated in Islamabad, the Pothohar region, Charsada, Bajaur, Kurram, Waziristan, and Kohat.
Possible Impacts:
- Rain will be beneficial for the standing crops specially in Barani areas
- Foggy conditions are likely to reduce during the forecast period
- Day temperatures are likely to fall (05-07) °C during the wet spell
- Snowfall may disrupt normal vehicular traffic in mountainous/hilly areas
- Possibility of landslides in Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan can’t be ruled out due to which blockage of roads may occur during the forecast period
All relevant authorities have been urged by PMD to exercise caution in order to prevent any unfavourable events throughout the projected period.

Under notification to PDMA, Punjab, the concerned Deputy Commissioners have been advised to maintain the District Emergency Operations Centers (DEOCs) operational / functioning round-the-clock during the aforementioned period.
