Recent events in Beijing included the project’s launch ceremony for setting up Pakistan’s new-generation geodetic datum.
Both Mr. Zeng Huacheng, Deputy Director General of the Agency for International Economic Cooperation of the Ministry of Commerce, People’s Republic of China, and Mr. Maj Gen Saeed Akhtar, Surveyor General of Pakistan’s State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping, attended the event and made speeches.
In order to create a Next-Generation Geodetic Datum of Pakistan, the Pakistani government asked the Chinese government for assistance in 2011. Research and innovation in the fields of economy and society are anticipated to be stimulated by this Geographic Information System mapping and surveying project. Its connections would encourage collaboration among government organizations, academic institutions, and public institutions.
The Chinese and Pakistani governments exchanged letters of understanding and financial support for the project in May 2017. One of the groups supporting the execution of this project is the Chinese Academy of Survey and Mapping.
The Belt and Road Initiative places a high priority on Chinese and Pakistani cooperation. This year saw the official launch of the project to help Pakistan establish a new generation of national surveying and mapping datum, which was supported jointly by China’s Ministry of Commerce and Pakistan’s Ministry of Finance.
The management of geospatial data is built on the basis of geodetic reference. After it is finished, the geodetic datum will enhance the modernization and level of service of Pakistan’s mapping benchmark to meet that country’s needs for both national defense and economic and social development.
According to MOFCOM, it will also provide much-needed basic geographic information for the planning, design, and execution of large-scale infrastructure construction under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. It uses a highly accurate and consistent geocentric coordinate system.
