After defeating New Zealand by 102 runs on Friday at the National Stadium in Karachi, Pakistan has a commanding 4-0 lead over New Zealand in their five-match One-Day International series.
Pakistan has also risen to the top spot in the ODI team rankings for the first time since the rankings were formally acknowledged by the ICC in January 2005 thanks to this victory.
Prior to the start of the series, Pakistan had a rating of 106 and was ranked fifth in the ODI rankings. However, their impressive home performances have propelled them to the third spot with a rating of 113.483, surpassing Australia and India.
In order to keep their lead in the rankings, Pakistan will need to secure a clean sweep by winning the fifth and final ODI on Sunday, May 7.
If they don’t, they’ll drop to No. 3 and Australia will take over as No. 1 again. If Pakistan wins the fourth ODI and the fifth game is called off or ends in a tie, they will still be ranked first in the world.
