The OnePlus 12 is anticipated to succeed the OnePlus 11 5G, which was released in February of this year. According to rumors, the phone will launch with several upgrades to its previous models’ specifications and appearance. The OnePlus 11 has a 50-megapixel Sony IMX890 primary sensor and a triple rear camera setup. It is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. The rumored OnePlus 12 will reportedly have a significant camera upgrade and will probably launch with a more potent processor than its predecessor, according to a tipster.
OnePlus and Realme were both testing periscope lenses on phones with the SM8650 chipset, according to well-known tipster Digital Chat Station in a Weibo post. According to a report by Android Authority, the model number SM8659 suggests a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC that hasn’t yet been revealed. The informant also noted that not all of the handsets purportedly testing periscope lenses have the OmniVision OV64B camera sensor.
The OnePlus 12, the follow-up to the flagship OnePlus 11 model, can be inferred to be the upcoming OnePlus model mentioned in the post. It makes sense that the OnePlus 12 would debut the following year, in 2024. It will probably be made available after Qualcomm introduces the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, which will replace the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, the company’s newest and fastest chip.
According to the tipper, the suggested periscope lens will produce higher quality zoomed photos and a greater ability to zoom than the standard 2x zoom. Alongside Samsung’s Galaxy S23 Ultra, which offers up to 10 times optical zoom, Oppo’s Find X6 Pro has periscopic lenses. The well-known Google Pixel 7 Pro, meanwhile, has an optical zoom that can be multiplied by five. Future iPhone models may even come equipped with periscopic lenses.
Sony IMX890, IMX581, and IMX709 sensors with up to two times of zoom were used in the OnePlus 11 5G. The OnePlus 12, the rumored model that will replace it, could most likely use the OmniVision OV64B sensor and the periscopic lenses to produce better, more detailed zoomed images.
With up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 4.0 internal storage, the OnePlus 11 5G is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC with an Adreno 740 GPU. It has a 5,000mAh battery that supports 100W wired SuperVOOC fast charging. The phone is available in Eternal Green and Titan Black color options.
