MET Police officer who killed an unarmed rapper Chris Kab has been suspended.
It happens after the police oversight organisation opened a homicide inquiry into the passing of 24-year-old Chris Kaba.
Following a police car pursuit in Streatham Hill, South London, the soon-to-be father was slain last week.
Before an armed cop opened fire on him, two police cars had his Audi surrounded.
Since then, Chris, a drill rapper, has had the officer’s suspension demanded by his family.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct recently announced a homicide inquiry, and assistant Met commissioner Amanda Pearson said: “This decision has been taken after careful consideration of a number of reasons, including the considerable impact on public confidence.
“Our thoughts and sympathies remain with Mr Kaba’s family and friends.
“We understand how concerned communities are, particularly black communities, and thank those who are working closely with our local officers.”
When number plate recognition indicated Chris may have been involved in a shooting days earlier, officers sought to pull him over. He was unarmed, according to a later independent investigation.
Helen, Chris’ mother, alleged racism against the cops last week. “My heart is devastated,” she admitted to the BBC. I cannot speak. My heart is torn apart.
“Police have taken Chris from me. I need justice to be done for Chris. This is very racist. It’s no good.
“I need justice to be done; criminal justice to be done.”
On Saturday, large groups gathered in front of the Met headquarters to demand justice for Chris.
Rapper Stormzy joined the crowd and said: “Chris has a mother, he has a family, he has brothers, he has friends, people who knew him in real life, and it’s intolerable for them.”
“When these people commit these crimes, they get away with it,” he continued.
“Because what happens is we do this once, we get tired, we tweet, we get tired, we do it for a week, we do it for two weeks, we do it for a month, and they know we get tired.
“What they’ve done is they’ve killed someone. We can’t sugar coat it.”
