Nilay Aydogan, a Turkish basketball player, was discovered dead after last week’s deadly earthquake.
The 30-year-old was a player for Cankaya University of the Turkish Super League.
While Aydogan was travelling to Malayta to see her grandma, the tragedy occurred.
The apartment building where Aydogan’s grandma lived was destroyed by the earthquake.
In the wreckage, bodies of the basketball player and her grandma were discovered.
In a statement, the Turkish Basketball Federation said: “We have learned with deep sadness that Nilay Aydogan, the national player of Cankaya University, one of the ING Women’s Basketball Super League teams, lost her life in the earthquake disaster.
“May God have mercy on the deceased, we offer our condolences to her family, relatives and basketball community.”
Malayta, where Aydogan was reportedly visiting, is roughly 135 miles east of Kahramanmaras, close to the border with Syria.
Days before the earthquake, Aydogan’s final match for Cankaya was a win over Hatayspor.
The basketball player is the most well-known athlete to be impacted by the earthquake recently.
Christian Atsu, a former Premier League star, is still being sought after.
Ace of Hatayspor Despite some stories claiming he had been located and was in a hospital, Atsu went missing after the earthquake last week and has not yet been located.
