Caleb Farley, an NFL defensive back, was home when there was an explosion that killed his father and injured another.
Just after midnight on Tuesday, an explosion occurred at the $2 million home of the Tennessee Titans star in Mooresville, North Carolina, which is 28 miles north of Charlotte.
The victim has been identified by authorities as Robert Matthews Farley, 61, Farley’s father, according to the report
A loud explosion was then heard shortly after, according to neighbors.
An early-morning walk with neighbor Clay Wild resulted in “a loud boom, about five minutes to midnight,” he told the outlet.
“What a beautiful house, in every way, I can’t believe it.”
According to Iredell County Fire Services, one person was found inside the wreckage and later died.
As the crews arrived, a second male left the house with non-life-threatening wounds. That person hasn’t been named yet.
On Tuesday morning, Farley, 24, was seen at the blast site talking to police.
Farley has lived at the house for less than a year, according to neighbors, who spoke to the publication.
The 6,391-square-foot house, according to records, was constructed in 2016. It has not yet been determined what caused the explosion.
Farley has been absent from the Titans’ preseason practices because of a back injury that he is currently experiencing.
The Titans selected the North Carolina native with the 22nd overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Farley and the Titans reached an agreement on a fully guaranteed, four-year, $13.94 million contract less than a month after the draft.
The talented defensive back has struggled with injuries, torn his ACL in 2021 and played in just nine games of the previous season before developing a herniated disk in his back.
