For the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2022–23 (FY23), the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has approved an increase in the power tariff of Rs. 5.40 per unit.

The ex-Wapda distribution companies (XWDISCOs) submitted their requests for adjustments for the fourth quarter of FY23, or April to June 2023, on which NEPRA held a hearing. These requests included adjustments for capacity charges, transmission charges, market operator fees, the impact of incremental units, the impact of T&D losses on FCA, and variable operation & maintenance charges.

Power users will now be required to pay distribution companies an additional Rs. 144 billion as a result of the approval. However, customers of Lifeline and K-Electric will not be subject to this revised tariff.

Customers will be charged for the increase on their September, October, and November bills. As consumers are already dealing with enormous bills, the authority may take into consideration the Power Division’s request to collect the increase in six rather than three months when it issues its detailed decision in the upcoming days.
