Neil Currey, the MR Olympia star, died at the age of 34, according to his old mentor.
Milos Sarcev, a Serbian bodybuilding star, relayed the awful news in an Instagram tribute on Monday.
Sarcev described Currey’s death as “heartbreaking” as he paid tribute online.
He said: “My last/best memory of him was this smiling face after he won New York Pro and fulfilled his lifetime dream of qualifying for the Mr. Olympia.
“I am lost for words and filled with pain and sadness.”
No official cause of death has yet been released.
Currey, who was born in the United Kingdom, qualified for the Mr. Olympia 2022 competition and finished 16th in the Classic Physique category.
The bodybuilding pro has previously competed in the New York Pro and the Puerto Rico Pro.
He has also competed in bodybuilding contests in Europe, Kuwait, and Japan.
Currey died barely six years after making his bodybuilding debut.
Tributes have poured in online as news of Currey’s death emerged.
Canadian bodybuilder Fouad Abiad said: “Very sad to hear the news today of Neil Currey’s passing.
“His work ethic was second to none and he had so much potential that was still untapped.”
Abiad said he “didn’t really have much of a chance” to become close to Neil but said “his character” left an “impression.”
The official Instagram account of RX Muscle said: “Stunned and beyond saddened by the tragic news that Neil Currey has passed away at the young age of 34.
“We pass our most sincere and deepest condolences to Neil’s family, friends, and to all of his friends around the world.”
Currey’s death comes just days after the iconic bodybuilding star Lisa Lyon died following a battle with stomach cancer.
