Following India’s release of roughly 185,000 cusecs of water from the Ujh Barrage, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) issued a warning about potential “low floods” in the River Ravi.
There is a chance of low floods in Punjab’s Jassar region within the next 20 to 24 hours due to an estimated arrival of 65,000 cusecs. India released 173,000 cusecs last year, of which about one-third reached Jassar and caused minor floods.
By highlighting India’s recent water release and the potential for low flood levels in the floodplain areas based on the River Ravi’s flood limits at Jassar, NDMA posted this information on Twitter.
The local administration is closely monitoring the situation until July 20 while adhering to NDMA guidelines, despite the risk.
A plan has been made to deal with any unfavorable circumstances. Flood warnings were issued for Hafizabad and Narowal due to the river Ravi’s rising water levels, and relief camps were set up along rivers and canals.
Additionally, flooding in the River Sutlej and its tributaries, including Bhimber, Deg, Palkho, and Basantar, may result from heavy rain in Lahore, Sialkot, and Narowal.
Due to worries about flooding in the river Chenab, relief camps were established close to Kot Ghulam in order to reduce risks. Flooding has already occurred in the region between Kot Ghulam and Kot Nikka, and damage assessments have been made.
There is ongoing water flow monitoring, along with emergency response planning. Residents in low-lying areas are being actively warned by the district administration, and necessary safety measures are being taken.
