A FAMOUS YouTuber going by the handle “Nutty” allegedly defrauded followers of their money and fled Thailand, according to authorities.
Bikini-clad Police are now looking for Natthamon Khongchak and have issued an arrest warrant for her after she is accused of defrauding up to 6,000 victims of £47 million.
Natthamon manages a YouTube channel with over 80,000 subscribers where she routinely gives trading advice while assuming the identity of a forex trader.
Videos of the diva visiting exotic beaches, posing with pricey cars, and participating in dancing lessons are all over her Instagram, demonstrating her opulent lifestyle.
But since then, attorneys for the claimed victims have brought many complaints to the Thai prosecutors’ office.
They assert that she leveraged her clout on social media sites to defraud people of their investments by promising speedy returns of 35% but failing to fulfil the promise.
The Bangkok Criminal Court had issued an arrest order for Khongchak, according to Thai police, and Interpol would receive notice.
According to Colonel Thapakorn Hanumas, 102 victims have so far reported to police that they have lost money totaling about £700,000.
He claimed that the “latest hint,” which “comes from someone who released a video saying that Nutty was found in Malaysia,” was being investigated by police.
Lieutenant Colonel Watthana Ket-Amphai, a colleague of his, continued, “We are looking into the suspect’s connections to Singapore and Malaysia.
“We are confident that she will be caught with the co-operation of police in these countries.”
Around 6,000 victims have allegedly been defrauded of a total of £47 million, according to Phaisal Ruangri, a lawyer who advocates for fraud victims.
He asserted that one investor had put up to £423,000 with Natthamon but had not yet received any profits.
“The investors trusted her because she was a popular YouTube star with almost a million subscribers,” he said.
“She used her popularity to trick her followers.
“On social media she displayed her wealth, with holidays, designer clothes, handbags, and cars. Her fans believed she was a successful businesswoman.”
When investors started complaining that they had not received the promised return, her scam started to fall apart in April.
Natthamon revealed in an Instagram post a month later that she had made a trading blunder and lost all the money, offering to reimburse her investors.
At the time, she warned her devoted fans that if she went to jail, she wouldn’t be able to pay back other investments.
Since May, she hasn’t made any online posts.
One of the victims told the local media that she had lost the equivalent of $42,000 due to the alleged swindle.
“I was saving this money to send my children to university,” she said.
“I thought that the money Nutty promised would help us live a more comfortable life. Now I am sick with worry as I’ve lost everything.”
The arrest warrant states that Nichapat Ratananukrom, Natthamon’s secretary, and they are wanted “for jointly cheating individuals.”
They are accused of “publicly declaring or advertising the borrowing of money where the pay benefits rates are higher than the highest interest rates that a financial institution can pay.”
