BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (WAFB) – According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, the body of a Georgia man who went missing in Baton Rouge has been discovered.
Nathan Millard, 42, of Walton County, Ga., was discovered dead in the 2900 block of Scenic Hwy. on Monday, March 6.
Family members confirmed that his body was discovered in a vacant lot.
“For my family, what I really want is just closure to know. Me personally, I want to know what happened. I want to know the details,” said Millard’s oldest son, Landyn.
Landyn says it’s been difficult, and not knowing for so long has been the most difficult part.
“When I first heard the news, I was pretty much in shock it was very hard to comprehend because it just didn’t seem like him. He wouldn’t go; he wouldn’t disappear like that. So I knew immediately when I heard it and that he was missing, I knew that it was it was most likely bad,” he said.
Millard went missing during a business trip in Baton Rouge. He and his client attended an LSU basketball game before going to a downtown bar.
Millard was last seen at Happy’s Irish Pub on Third Street in the downtown area around 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 22.
“I definitely thought that he would be coming back. It’s just not like him at all, he’s not that guy. I mean even if he would go have fun for a night, maybe, he’s still going to come home. He’s still going to come home to his family. He’s got obligations, he’s a good man,” Landyn explained.
Several search crews, in addition to the Baton Rouge Police Department, assisted in the search for Millard. This past weekend, the United Cajun Navy stepped in to help.
“Everybody joined in Saturday, we combed the river really good. We combed downtown, we went a little North of the area because were kind of getting reports of something that maybe happened in some areas,” said Todd Terrell, who is the president of the United Cajun Navy.
However, it was not early Monday morning when someone driving by Scenic Highway smelled a foul odour, according to BRPD. Officers discovered Millard’s body wrapped in a rug in the vacant lot next to the old Rhodes Funeral Home.
According to officials, Millard’s cause of death is unknown at this time pending autopsy results.
This investigation is ongoing. At this time, Baton Rouge police say they are not ruling anything out.
Millard was the father of two sons and the stepfather of two teenagers and a seven-year-old daughter.
